Medical Technologies are increasingly a key area of European research. Several European funding programmes are now available for research project proposals such as the Framework Programme 7 (Cooperation programmes Health, ICT and NMP, and Research for the Benefit of SMEs) as well as the new AAL funding programme on Ambient Assisted Living, and other European programmes like eHealth, Eureka, Eurostars and ARTEMIS.

Participating regions or countries

On 20th May 2008 organizations from the following regions are organizing a partnering event on Medical Technologies in Brussels: IWT (Flanders (BE)), Agoria eHealth (BE), CIDEM-COPCA (Catalonia (ES)), Ile-de-France-Europe (Ile de France (FR)), Luxinnovation (LU), SenterNovem (NL), UWE (Wallonia (BE)), Veneto Region (Veneto (IT)) West Midlands Medical Technologies Cluster (West Midlands (UK)) and Zenit (Nordrhein-Westfalen (DE)).

How to participate

Each region will bring 4 to 5 SMEs, large enterprises and/or research organizations and 1 or 2 project idea(s) to the event and then in guided brainstorming sessions it is intended to develop 2 or 3 consortiums with specific ideas for new research projects for the current and near future programme calls. By concentrating on targeted regions and organizations, this will provide an effective and efficient forum for developing joint projects and future networks for successful European projects.

Due to the need to bring together a selective audience interested in concrete project development, the event is not open to all and applications for participation to the event need the support of the corresponding organization (see contacts below).

Participating enterprises and research organizations should be convinced of the need for transnational cooperation, be prepared to discuss their ideas openly and contribute constructively to the brainstorming sessions.

IWT, the Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders, are the main organizer and will provide facilities and catering. Participants are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs.

The registration is free. The venue is in the heart of Brussels.
